L-Ergothioneine (EGT) is a sulfur-containing histidine derivative, natural antioxidant derived from microorganisms, especially in edible mushrooms which has been used in the food and cosmetics industries.
It was first discovered in 1909 by French pharmacists Charles Tanret while investigating ergot fungiIt (Claviceps purpurea). It is also in human tissues and organs, but the human body cannot synthesize this substance by itself.
Hygieia Ergothioneine is manufactured by fermentation with high purity up to 99%.
